If you want to be a caster, then go asura
If you want to be melee go norn or dwarf.
If you want to be a ranger or sin, sylvari is your race.
If I see any asurans running around wielding a hammer ill uninstall and go play a real RPG.

I somewhat agree, somewhat disagree.
I want certain races to have benefits, but not to the point where you can't have an attacker asura, caster Norn, etc. etc. Because we already have an Asura Warrior (Renk) and we have three caster Norns. Not to mention, Sylvari would be along the lines of a Ritualist and the Charr more on the lines of Rangers/Assassins. Although it has been stated that the four Legions of the Charr will focus in different professions.
What I want to see as a difference between races, aside from looks, is:
-NPC to be different per race, like an Asura will talk down on other races, Charr will be hostile to Humans (not just in their talk, but actually hostile when they should be friendly), etc. etc. Having the race you choose decide how NPCs act around you.
-Singular skills and benefits, but small benefits. Like the Norn getting their Bear Form, Wolf Form, etc. etc., Asurans would get Golems, Charr would get Devourers (special pets and catapults).
-Different profession names. Such as a Charr Ranger would be called a Stalker, Asura Ranger would be a Scout, Human Ranger would be a Ranger, Norn Ranger would be a Druid. For all professions, each get a different name.

Keep wishing, unless Anet adds in a "previously undiscovered dwarf underground colony" where dwarves have been living in complete isolation since Eye of the North, it won't happen. And that just won't happen anyways.

I would say "I'll hold you to that" but I know that won't happen because Margonites are buh bye. Dead (about 90%?), converted (only two known for that), or locked back up in the soon-to-be Redeemed Realm (if the gw.dat can be trusted with that name).
Although, I am still holding out for a Margonite Paragon hero to be added to finish up the 3 of each hero Anet started (and continued with M.O.X.).

Based on the information out now, I'm going to play as a human and continue my previous characters' lineages (I don't even want to think of the horrible Asura-human or Charr-human cross breading that would have to take place to make an Asura/Charr my descendent).
I will play as an Asura if my voice during the cutscenes is the same as Vekk's (the voice of Brain).

Why on earth does everyone think that the non-human characters are biological descendants of our GW1 characters?
Ever thought that they are the descendants of Vekk, Pyre, Jora? Or perhaps adoption (i.e., name legacy, not literal child)?
WELL?!? It just sickens me that no one else thinks of it like that...

Those my my thoughts exactly! I even talked about a possible "left for a worthy hero" inheritance system on some thread.
But it doesn't really matter now that the HoM is not transferred character-->character but is account-->character.

I assumed that since the hall of monuments gives your armor, weapons, titles, and even your name to your descendent, that descendent was blood related. Of coarse, the little information that is out tell us nothing, and your idea is just as valid as any others. I was joking when I talked about hot Charr/Asura on human action.

I always thought that maybe the GW1 name that will be inherited is like giving honor to the hero that accompanied your GW2's species's ancestors. It doesn't mean that there is a bloodline, but whoever raised and gave you the name wants that legacy to continue. It's not uncommon, happens in folklore and in the real world. But then it could just be for the sake of name reservation and not tied to any story.

Depends on a few things to be honest.
Racial Benefits
Race Specific Professions
Mostly it will be determined by what is most appealing physically though haha.

That makes sense. It's like how I have me god father's middle name as my middle name, but we aren't blood related. Thanks for pointing that out.

I'll play as a Human. Reasoning is, the other races are filthy, ugly, and uncivilized vermin.
Oh god, I'm turning fascist.

Well, it seems like the Norn will have whatever will resemble a paragon and a ritualist profession since they have several NPC's of the two professions so I'll probably end up playing as one of them.
